Tales From Lincoln Park

Jun 27, 2011 by

I’ve lived in Chicago for over 35 years, mainly the north side. For the last 11 years I’ve lived in Wicker Park. Back in the 80’s, while in film school I worked and played their. I would go to Urbis Orbis for coffee, Club Dreamers for after hours, The Artful Dodger for Bloody Mary’s and the Wild Horse for 2:00 steak burritos. The thing I loved about Wicker was the diversity. I’m a city boy. I city boy that’s traveled the world, From South Africa to Rio, Auckland to Japan and many, many points in between. I’ve hung out with the Maori, Maasai, Diplomats, Nobel Prize winners and Fidel Castro’s son Fidel Jr while in Cuba smoking a Cuban cigar. I’m telling you these things not to boast but to give you an idea of who I am, where I’ve been. In all my travels the one thing I’ve learned is openness, the willingness to experience what others have to say and offer without bringing my prejudice, bigotry and preconceived notions into the experiance. It’s not easy to empathize. It takes a lot of patients and self control, but most of all it takes confronting your fears, something in short supply these days.
I moved into Lincoln Park spring 2011, I’ll be talking about what I see ¬†going on around me, in Lincoln Park, one of the most terrified communities I’ve ever lived in.
